FINAL : Tues/Wed 5th & 6th July Venue TBA. Round 1 - Zone Entry Fee: £20 per school for 1 or 2 teams (plus £10 for each extra team). Schools which host a zone are not required to pay an entry fee. Late Entry Fee: £10 after 31st December 2015. This successful competition, which started in 1969, is now in its 47th year. It is open to any school in England, Scotland, Wales or Gibraltar which can raise a team of 5 children plus one reserve (other areas considered). Although the aim is to find the strongest chess playing schools in the country, it is intended to be an interesting challenge to schools of any chess playing standard. Round 1 is played in regional zones which are normally expected to have up to 20 teams, 10 x U9's & 10x U11's. For a 10 team event, at the end of 5 matches the top 5 teams, or 4th=, or 50% (as appropriate for the size of the event), will qualify for the semi-finals. For 4th = there is no tie break even if 6 teams were to qualify. It is quite possible that some zones will exceed the capacity of the host school. If this happens then we shall endeavour to place your school in your second choice zone. On behalf of everyone, we would like to thank all the schools which have volunteered their premises and also the local organisers for offering to prepare and host the zones. Without them this competition could not run. Round 2: Qualifying schools can opt to play in one of the 2 day semi-finals at Pontins. Two Day Semi Final Entry Fee: This is included in the cost of accommodation and Day passes at Pontins. Each self-catering apartment caters for up to 6 people and costs from £190 for the weekend. All accommodation at Pontins MUST be booked through EPSCA NOT directly through Pontins. Teams wishing to stay off site can purchase EPSCA Day Passes which will entitle them to entry to the competition as well as the site. Passes will be required for all persons not staying at the venue. or One Day Bristol Semi Final Entry Fee: £100 per team. Please note that it is not possible for schools or individuals to reclaim VAT on accommodation or entry fee. Schools qualifying for Round Two (Semi-Finals) may choose to play in the venue most suitable to them (as numbers permit). Schools entering teams in more than one zone or semi-final should note that a particular child may only play for one team in any round. At least the top two schools in each event, from each semi-final, will continue to the Final Event. Round 3: There will be eight teams per age group in the Final, this will be played at a venue to be confirmed. Final Entry Fee: None Any teams needing financial assistance should apply to Glynis Purland/ Ian Burford who will treat each request in complete confidence. Should there be less than 16 teams, in an age group, in a Semi-final the Controller may divert one of the places for the Final to a different Semi-Final. Please return your entries by 31st December 2015. Schools will be allocated to zones early in January and information should arrive at your school by mid‑January for the January events.
